ADN Carriage of Dangerous Goods
The ADN Dangerous Goods Transport Expert qualification entitles the holder to perform dangerous goods transport expert services on inland navigation vessels, in respect of the vessel types, modes of transport and classes of goods specified in the qualification document.
Prerequisites for Obtaining the Qualification
To obtain the qualification, the candidate must:
• Attend a course approved by the Hungarian Navigation Authority;
• Subsequently pass an examination organized by the Navigation Examination Centre, no later than six months following the completion of the course.
The qualification may be obtained for service on:
• Dry cargo vessels;
• Tank vessels; or
• Both vessel types (combined).

• ADN Dangerous Goods Transport Expert – Gas Carriage
• ADN Dangerous Goods Transport Expert – Chemicals Carriage
Conditions for Admission to the Examination
• Minimum age of 18 years;
• Proof of participation in a course approved by the navigation authority;
• Proof of payment of the examination fee;
• For the ADN gas carriage examination: proof of at least one year of service on a type G tank vessel within the two-year period preceding or following the examination;
• For the ADN chemicals carriage examination: proof of at least one year of service on a type C tank vessel within the two-year period preceding or following the examination.
Issuance and Validity of the Certificate
Upon successful completion of the examination, the candidate must apply to the Navigation Examination Centre for the issuance of the certificate. The certificate is valid for five years from the date of the successful examination.
Renewal of the Certificate
The certificate may be renewed before its expiry date, as follows:
To renew the certificate, the holder must:
• Attend a refresher course approved by the navigation authority;
• Subsequently pass an examination organized by the Navigation Examination Centre.

Conditions for Admission to the Renewal Examination
• Proof of participation in a refresher course approved by the Hungarian Navigation authority;
• Proof of payment of the examination fee.
Renewal of the Gas Carriage Qualification
The gas carriage qualification may be renewed if the gas transport expert can demonstrate that:
• During the last year of validity of their certificate, they attended a refresher course covering at least the topics specified in section 8.2.2.3.3.2, with particular emphasis on the latest amendments; or
• During the last two years, they have worked for at least one year on a type G tank vessel.
Renewal of the Chemicals Carriage Qualification
The chemicals carriage qualification may be renewed if the chemicals transport expert can demonstrate that:
• During the last year of validity of their certificate, they attended a refresher course covering at least the topics specified in section 8.2.2.3.3.2, with particular emphasis on the latest amendments; or
• During the last two years, they have worked for at least one year on a type C tank vessel.
Issuance of the Renewed Certificate
Upon successful completion of the examination, the candidate must apply to the Navigation Examination Centre for the issuance of the new certificate.
The new certificate shall be valid for five years from the expiry date of the previously issued document, provided that the refresher course was completed within one year prior to the expiry date.
If the examination takes place more than one year before the expiry of the certificate, the validity of the newly issued certificate shall commence from the date of participation in the refresher course.
Repeat Examinations
Two repeat examinations may be taken during the validity period of the certificate. If both repeat examinations are unsuccessful, the refresher course and the examination may be repeated within the validity period of the certificate.
If the renewal refresher course and examination are not successfully and fully completed within the validity period of the certificate, the holder must complete a basic training course and pass the corresponding examination in order to obtain a new certificate.
