The main rules about the application

Application must be submitted at least 5 working days before the exam

Application for practical exam
You can apply for the practical exam held at an external location by filling in the application form and attaching the necessary documents if you have a booked appointment.
Appointments can be made as follows:
- At least 2 weeks before the scheduled date of the exam, you request the approval of the exam by sending a letter to the hajozas@kavk.hu email address, which request must include the following:
- Type of the exam
- The location of the exam, with the name of the port of departure
- Date and scheduled time of the exam
- Name of the vessel used during the exam - the request must be answered as:
- approves and schedules the appointment, or
- offers another appointment in a reply letter and after accepting it, books the appointment, or
- rejects.
When assessing the application, the Examination Centre will take into account, among other things, the type of the exam, the suitability of the vessel, and the number of applicants.
Exemptions
If you already hold a qualification, you may be exempted from taking the subjects of which you have already passed the examination at least at the same level when you obtained that associated previous qualification. A copy of the existing qualification document must be attached when applying.
No exemption from the practical test may be granted.
Cancellation of exams, no-shows without cancellation
- You can cancel the exam by writing an email the day before to hajozas@kavk.hu email address. In this case, the reason for cancelling the exam does not need to be indicated, the paid exam fee can be used on the next exam occasion.
- If you do not (appear)show up for the exam, but you can subsequently prove your absence from the exam by submitting an appropriate certificate (from the day of the missed exam or, if the submission of the application is impeded, within 8 calendar days of the removal of the obstacle, by submitting a certificate request sent in writing by post or submitted in personal at the shipping customer service), then if it is accepted by the Examination Centre, the fee for the exam being paid as follows: may be used for an examination with the same content as the missed exam.
- If you do not (appear) show up for the exam without proof or are late for the start of the exam, you cannot claim a refund or reuse of the exam fee.
Remedial and retake exam
In case of an unsuccessful exam, a remedial exam may be taken at least one week after the failed exam, but not after more than one year. In case of an unsuccessful exam, the fee for the subject(s) to be corrected must be paid when registering for the retake exam.
