Passenger Navigation Expert (EU)
Qualification required by the European Union for crew members on board inland passenger ships entrusted with passenger duties.
The qualification of a passenger navigation expert entitles the holder to perform passenger navigation expert services on a passenger ship.
It is valid for a maximum of 5 years from the date of issue of the passenger navigation expert certificate.
Conditions for obtaining and retaining the qualification of a passenger navigation expert:
I. Upon request, a passenger navigation expert qualification certificate may be issued for the first time to a person who:
- at least 18 years of age,
- has at least 6 months of approved sailing experience on a vessel scoped by directive 2397/2017,
- meets the requirements for competencies for passenger navigation experts; and demonstrate compliance with the requirement in the course of training approved by the navigation authority or by taking an exam at the Hungarian Shipping Examination Center.
II. The person applying for the renewal of the passenger navigation expert qualification certificate shall take a new examination at the Hungarian Shipping Examination Center or complete a new training program approved by the Navigation Authority.
Requirements for applying for the Passenger Navigation Expert Exam:
- Proof of identity
- At least 18 years of age
- At least 6 months of approved sailing experience on a vessel scoped by directive 2397/2017
- Proof of medical fitness (with a medical certificate issued no later than 3 months prior to the submission of the application for the issuance of the document certifying the acquisition of the qualification)
- Payment of the exam fee
