Navigating with large convoys, barge couplings
A special permit to navigate large convoys is required for those pushed convoys where the total length of the convoy multiplied by its overall width is at least 7000 square meters.
To obtain this qualification, you must be qualified as Boatmaster (EU).
In order to obtain this qualification, it is necessary to replace the existing Boatmasters' qualification, due to a new Boatmaster's qualification document will be issued with a C (permission to navigate with large convoys) entry under the heading of the coded individual licenses.
In addition, the qualification to command large convoys is subject to the condition that the applicant has at least 720 days of navigation time, of which at least 540 days have served as a qualified Boatmaster and at least 180 days of navigation time operating large convoys.
The minimum navigation time of 180 days required to issue a qualification to navigate large convoys shall be completed at least in the position of Helmsman.
The submission of the vessel’s Logbook or a copy of that which is certified by the Boatmaster of service on a large convoy that is verified in the Service Record Book may be accepted for verification of the minimum navigation time requirements. In the case of a ship not registered in the Hungarian register, the authority may also request a copy of the navigability certificate if information on the technical parameters of the vessel is not available and is not available from an authentic public database.
The Boatmaster's qualification to navigate large convoys is valid for 5 years from the date of issue, after which the Examination Centre issues a new qualification document upon request.
