Title of examination subjects: Additional module, category I competences

Exam type: Practical exam

Examiners are free to decide on the content of each test element.

Examiners must perform at least 20 of the 25 test elements of the table below.

The candidate can achieve a maximum of 10 points for each item.

In order to pass the exam, the candidate must achieve at least 7 points out of 10 for each element.

Application for the exams

 EXAM ITEMS
1. Use materials available on board such as winches, bollards, ropes and wires considering relevant work safety measures including the use of personal protective and rescue equipment.
2. Connect and disconnect push/barge combinations using the required equipment and materials.
3. Use equipment and materials available on board for coupling operations considering relevant work safety measures including the use of personal protective and rescue equipment.
4. Demonstrate anchor manoeuvres.
5. Use equipment and materials available on board for anchoring operations considering relevant work safety measures including the use of personal protective and rescue equipment.
6. Secure the watertightness of the craft.
7. Work according to the checklist on deck and in the living quarters such as waterproofing and securing of the hatches and holds.
8. Handle and maintain the craft’s day and night marking system, signs and sound signals.
9. Operate and control the machinery in the engine room following procedures.
10. Prepare and operate shut-off-operations of the engines after operation.
11. Operate pumping bilge, ballast and cargo pumping systems.
12. Use hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
13. Use switchboard.
14. Use shore supply.
15. Apply safe working procedures in maintenance and repair of engines and equipment.
16. Clean the engine rooms and engines using the appropriate cleansing materials.
17. Maintain and take care of all technical equipment according to technical instructions and use maintenance programmes (including digital).
18. Splice wires and ropes, apply knots according to their use and maintain wires and ropes.
19. Use required technical and nautical terms as well as terms related to social aspects in standardised communication phrases.
20. Prevent dangers related to on board hazards.
21. Prevent activities which might be hazardous to personnel or craft.
22. Use personal protective equipment.
23. Use emergency communication and alarm systems and equipment.
24. Apply various methods of firefighting and extinguish equipment and fixed installations.
25. Perform medical first aid.
