Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) expert

The LNG expert qualification shall be entitled to participate in the bunkering process for LNG-fuelled craft and to act as a boatmaster on a craft using LNG as fuel.

Minimum requirements for the award of qualification:

I. An application for an EU certificate of qualification for a liquefied natural gas expert (LNG) may be made for the first time by who:

• be at least 18 years of age; and
• passed the theoretical and practical test of the LNG expert.

II. The Union certificate of qualification of an LNG expert may be renewed if the applicant:

•  have on board a ship using liquefied natural gas as a fuel the following navigation time:
  • -> at least 180 days within five years; or
  • -> at least 90 days within a year;

or 

• Concerning the LNG expert, have passed the refurbishment test.
